After scraping every last bit of the samples given (a very good sign when it comes to reviewing something), 3 products stood out and I simply broke down and purchased them, I enjoyed them that much! Isn’t that what a beauty regimen should be? While some things in life can be met with frustration or meh… your skin care routine shouldn’t be one of them!
I really need some help and I was wondering if you could help me out. I have really REALLY thick curly hair. It’s longer than shoulder length (about half way down my chest). I am so sick of looking at my hair this way. I was never taught how to manage my hair properly because my mother has the exact opposite of what I have (so I blame my father for my torture. haha.) I’m so sick of looking at it that I want to cut….I want it all done. I want to do a short hair style but is there one that you would recommend? (pictures would be helpful so I can take it to a salon) Thanks so much for your time. – S
Oh S you are not alone. This is my response to her:
I just got your message and would love to help you. Have you spent any time on the naturallycurly.com website? If not, if you could go to the http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types page and tell me what kind of specific hair type you have.
I am a 3A, and it sounds like you might be a 3C or possibly a 4A. There are a lot of wonderful techniques and products that I would love you to try. If you can, visit your library and check out the book, “Curly Girl,” by Lorraine Massey, the curly girls BIBLE!
And just hold off for a bit on the haircut until you have researched this out and found a hairstylist that really understands curly hair (not many do). You will want a dry cut, not a wet one, you need someone who spends time to see your curl pattern and can enhance what you have, and no razors allowed, ever!!!
I grew up in a family where everyone had “normal hair” except me, so they were all as bewildered as I was! It took me 38 years to discover the curly girl method, and I am so happy you are going to learn to love your own hair, you really will. Curly girls are IN, we are what is hip and what everyone wants right now, so by learning how to work with it is going to be an amazing experience for you.
I have a ton of articles on Mythbuster Beauty, including the post where I worked with Tracy and she took the three week naturally curly challenge:
The Three Week Naturally Curly Challenge: On this post, you can read where we talk about specific curly hair rules, like no brushing, no shampooing, no blow frying, I mean drying!
Most importantly, learning to accept and embrace your hair is probably one of the most important and difficult things you will face (hopefully) :). Thank you so much for trusting me and sharing this part of your life with me. If you can give me your hair type information then I can search for some photos and continue on this journey to fabulous hair.
*This is a picture of a rose in my garden, it is the “Love and Peace” rose, which I think is an appropriate theme to making peace with your hair!
Together, let’s simplify the process by identifying what we love and what we don’t.
As you are probably aware October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. The economy is tight and might make it difficult to donate, so why not enter and learn a fact along the way about breast cancer that you may not have known? In order to promote breast cancer awareness, Total Beauty has organized the Total Cure initiative. Over 50 beauty blogs have been partnering with several different beauty brands to provide giveaways throughout the month of October to raise awareness for Breast Cancer.
Mythbuster Beauty along with Baby Quasar are enthusiastic to be part of this initiative. In search for a cure and to promote BCA, for today only you can enter here to get a chance to win a Baby Quasar PowerPack!
The Baby Quasar (or BabyQ, as it’s affectionately called) is designed to deliver four light wavelengths that can enhance the skin cells’ circulation, stimulating collagen production and healing. The Baby Blue delivers only blue light and kills the bacteria that causes acne. Both devices have been favorably reviewed and are probably the most coveted photo rejuvenation items on the planet!!!
To read my very positive review of the Baby Quasar and Baby Blue, you can follow this link to: Mythbuster Beauty Review: Baby Quasar and Baby Blue.

That’s Too Faced Cosmetics’ mantra, and I can totally get behind that. They don’t want women to just look gorgeous, they want women to feel gorgeous, and that’s a message that sells. Since their inception 10 years ago they have skyrocketed to the top of the cosmetics wish list, taking their place with other faves like MAC and Chanel.
One of the things I love Too Faced for is their ability to be fun and kicky but remain classy. As I get older and finally grow into my adult responsibility (sort of), I try to evolve and keep my style on course with my age. Too Faced offers products that help me look smartly put together while still having a little crazy fun.
One of their products that helps me do that is Starry Eyed Liquid Liner ($17.50). Liquid liners packed with micro glitter, these are perfect for a little extra pop during the day, or a lot at night. A quick pass of Gold Digger right at your lash line gives a brightening look to your typical bronze shadow. It gave my eyes an open happy look, without being over the top. One swipe gives a twinkling shine without screaming “HELLO, I’M WEARING GLITTER!”, or add a few more layers for a bold, eye catching disco ball effect. Unlike a lot of micro-glitter eye products, Starry Eyed doesn’t irritate my eyes, and I appreciate that I can wear something I love without my eyes ending up goopy and itchy for once. Is it the addition of calming cucumber or soothing carrot that does it? Heck if I know, but I can tell you it’s a fantastic formula all around! It’s not quite as fast drying as you hope, but a quick shot of cool air from my hair dryer takes care of that. Be sure to let it dry all the way before opening your peepers wide, or you’ll end up with glitter on your upper eyelid all day long because the staying power is awesome. (more…)
