Is there anything prettier for fall than a shiny copper lipstick accompanied by a deep plum eye shadow? Together they are simply beautiful autumn hues.
Because of my very cool pink skin undertones, I generally wouldn’t wear a copper shade lip color because it would look orangey. So I was somewhat surprised and very pleased when I used the “Pretty Penny” lipstick from LooseLipsNY. It has a bit of burgundy combined with the copper, and really looked great. The formula is very smooth and moisturizing lipstick. To add some shine and dimension to this color, LooseLipsNY Lumi-Shine lip gloss in FATE goes very well on top of the Pretty Penny lipstick, a coppery sheer shine with pink sparkles.
LooseLips Indelible Creme Eye Shadow in Plumkin looks very dark in the container, but goes on smoothly and adds a deep brownish plum shade with a bit of pink sparkle. This is a waterproof and long wearing creme-to-powder eye shadow that is a drop dead gorgeous! I love it.
LooseLipsNY is generously giving away this Copper and Plum Trio to one lucky Mythbuster Beauty reader! The Copper and Plum Trio consists of: a LooseLipsNY Lipstick in Pretty Penny ($12), a LooseLipsNY Lumi-Shine Lip Gloss in FATE ($15), and a LooseLips Indelible Creme Eye Shadow in Plumkin ($16). Combined these items would retail for $43. (more…)
Growing up, I was a huge fan of both television shows, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. In 2007, a new Bionic addition arrived on the planet, enter Jami who disguises herself under the blog name “Bionic Beauty™.” I just remembered that the TV Bionic Woman’s character is named Jamie Sommers. Mere coincidence that these two heroines share the same first name? I think not.

In the pursuit of all that is good and beautiful, Jami and I quickly became beauty blogging buds. I guess you could say, I’m Bionic Beauty’s sidekick, Little Ms. Mythbuster Beauty! Over the last few months, we have been emailing back and forth and encouraging each other’s efforts. Both our husbands think we have gone completely batty with our beauty blogs. And respectfully so, maybe we have!
The Bionic Beauty™ blog features makeup samples, beauty freebies, affordable cosmetics and honest product reviews.

Yesterday, Bionic Beauty™ revealed a little bit more of her human side by posting her answers to a meme. Yes, this blogging heroine has warm blood like you and me.
She will also be on a “Let’s Talk Makeup” podcast tomorrow at 2pm EST with Sherry from LooseLipsNY. To listen visit the Loose Lips NY radio site here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/looselipsny. And if you would like to call in, simply dial (646) 716-8862.

Hint of Mint, Black Cherry? Sounds like Ben and Jerry’s Holiday Ice Cream collection.
Actually… “Hint of Mint“ is an ultra sheer and shiny lip gloss with the delicate taste of mint from LooseLipsNY. I have been wearing and loving this gloss in “mint glamour girl,” with a lot of gold sparkle and shine. “Hint of Mint” gloss is smooth, not gritty, moisturizing, but not sticky. You can use “Hint of Mint” alone or layer with your favorite lip color!
After putting this on, my husband noticed! He also liked the minty kiss he received after giving me the compliment. Another favorite find at LooseLips NY is their Indelible Gel Eyeliner in Black Cherry.
Here is Mo Mommy’s glowing review of this fantastic eyeliner:
“Now here comes gel. With a really good brush (see my post) it is so easy to get a precise line, or to smudge, and it gets all the way into my lash line with no clumping, leading to a very smooth look. It stays for ages without moving or transferring.”
Sherry from LooseLipsNY asked me to call in this Friday for a 30 minute pod cast interview with her. We are going to talk about our favorite cosmetic and skincare products. What’s better than listening in on a fun conversation between women who know and are completely obsessed with beauty products?
Being asked to participate with them!

Although I am quite excited to talk to Sherry, speaking on a pod cast really frightens me. It is so much easier to think clearly and create from behind a computer keyboard! Your support would really be appreciated.

To be fair I have found brands I’m not crazy about (Clinique) but overall it is like a product that was made just for me! It fits all my needs perfectly! One of the reasons I really like Loose Lips the best so far is that their color is very smooth and their pots are the perfect size. A drugstore brand I recently bought was huge, and there is no way to use all that before the shelf life is up. Especially since I don’t use the same things two days in a row. I’m not too keen on throwing away my money, thanks. So, there in a (really, really long) nutshell is my opinion on gel liner!!!”
The Makeup Junkie just wrote up an incredible review of both of these products as well. She gives fantastic how-to eyeliner tips, and photos of herself with the product on.
Both the Black Cherry Indelible Gel Eyeliner and Hint of Mint Lip Gloss create a very stunning holiday look.
Sherry at LooseLipsNY asked me to participate in a Pod cast interview. On January 4, 2008 2pm EST, you can listen in, while Sherry and I shoot the beauty “buzz” together. It honestly scares me silly to think about it. You can also call in and ask one of us a question or give us some beauty/blogging advice…
I am going to eat some ice cream now… Yum!
Recently, Sherry and Robin from LooseLipsNY interviewed Erica, who is the editor-in-chief of a fashion site called, “The Style Spy.” Erica has the most amazing site and gives great information about the latest trends in fashion and makeup.
I love how Erica defines fashion terms on her site, for example:
The “Beauty Junkie”:
You died and went to heaven the first time you stepped into Sephora. You’re always on the look out for the best lip plumper for those luscious Angelina Jolie oh-so-kissable lips, the perfect peachy-pink blush for that just after-sex glow and that smudge-proof mascara for the va va voom lashes.
The “Shopping Queen”:
Nobody shops like you do. You’re on all the VIP shopping lists, the salespeople know you by first name and you’re Visa’s number one customer. Nobody messes with you at a warehouse sale, cause you’ll knock them over if they get in your way. You’re the shopping expert who always comes out with the most fabulous finds. All hail the Queen.
The Style Spy also features a very neat post called, “The Girl of the Week.” They showcase an exceptionally fashionable woman and ask her questions like: “What is your go-to look?” and “What would you never wear?” These questions really help gals like me, with a fashion IQ of zero. I did call in and to ask Erica a question on the pod cast. Unfortunately for them, I was calling from my cell phone outside and was speaking entirely too loud! Ugh!
My question was, “To avoid the fashion blunder that is often called “Mom Jeans,” what style denim would you recommend for Moms and the slightly (cough) older woman?”
Erica, Sherry and Robin all were wonderful and answered my question without a hitch.
They suggested avoiding the trendy high-waisted or skinny jeans, although your figure probably will dictate what style you can wear. They suggested that a dark “trouser” style jean is ideal for Mom’s because it is versatile and can go from day into evening wear. Sherry added to look for denim fabric that has a good amount of stretch to it. She also mentioned a line I had never heard of before called, “Big Star,” which is made by the AG denim line and is about half the price of most premium jeans. 7 of all Mankind and Joe’s Jeans also offer a great trouser jean. Just prepare yourself for the price tag, ouch! You can find these jeans online, but I would suggest going to your local Nordstroms and trying on several pairs. If you need to, have them professionally hemmed for the perfect length. Even though I am 5′ 5″, most jeans are a bit too long for my legs!
After losing the last 15 pounds of baby weight last year, I rewarded myself for my 38th birthday by buying myself a premium pair of denim jeans. I tried on several styles and brands. I ended up getting a pair from David Kahn, who offers a slightly higher waist than the other high -end denim lines. I absolutely love them and get compliments on them every time I wear them. I don’t mind spending a bit more on something, if I know I will get really good use out of them and they feel and look fabulous on.
You can wear your hot mama jeans with a great belt, some trendy boots or heels, and you are in style!
Thank you so much Sherry, Robin, and Erica for answering my never ending need for fashion advice! You can listen to this interview by visiting: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/looselipsny.
I wanted to add a link on how to avoid the lovely “muffin top” while wearing your jeans. I use Spanx brand undergarments for this very reason, which you can buy at Target stores for about $20.

No, they are not gumballs, they are lip balm balls! And you can get them free when you order samples from LooseLipsNY… You can also receive $10 off when you purchase both their signature mineral foundation and kabuki brush together. Simply use the code kabuki10 at checkout.
Sherry Backman at http://looselipsny.com/ contacted me after she read my post on their wonderful Pumpkin Peel. She asked if I would be interested in trying their mineral foundation as well. Heck yeah, I would!
I received a sample of their loose mineral powder foundation in the light and medium shades. I would judge their mineral foundation as being comparable to Bare Escentuals and any other high quality mineral foundation. This foundation goes on easily and feels feather light on your skin. If you are fair skinned, their light shade will look amazing on you. The medium shade would also work perfectly for me in the summer months. This foundation is also available in Mineral Beige and Dark.
Sherry also sent me a sample of their Mineral Shimmer Powder, and it has a similar appeal to B.E.’s Mineral Veil powder. The shimmer adds a hint of glow and completes your look by adding that “soft focus look.” The older I get, the more this idea appeals to me…
I felt really glamorous while wearing their makeup, and went to run my daily errands with an extra skip in my step! When your skin looks great, I find it easier to smile and greet other people with confidence.
Let me share with you a little bit about the founders of LooseLipsNY from their website:
Sherry and I have been friends since sixth grade. We are both turning 40 this year and we look back on pictures of each other throughout the years we realize that we look better now then we did then. Why?- We figured out what works and what doesn’t. We both have tried every beauty fad, skin product, and makeup line there is. Loose Lips New York is a compilation of all of the products that we love and products that really work.
And might I add, both Sherry and Robin are amazingly down to earth and funny! If you are looking for a new mineral foundation to try, I suggest taking a peek over at LooseLipsNY.com. While your there, check out the Pumpkin Peel and the Indelible Eyeliner in Black Cherry!
**On Friday Oct 12th at 2 PM EST, Sherry and Robin will be interviewing Erica, the Editor-in-Chief from The Style Spy (http://www.thestylespy.com/), the every day girl’s ultimate guide to shopping. She’ll be dishing about the must-haves for fall and celebrity style that you love and hate. You can call in with your fashion and style questions at (646) 716-8862, and listen to the pod cast on: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/looselipsny.
After discussing the Drug Store Loose Mineral Brands vs. the ever popular Bare Escentuals, I did some further research and want to mention updates on three different mineral makeups:
1. Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear: *Read Comment Below
At Costco today, I spied a Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear set for about $13.00. The package looks very compelling and includes the face powder foundation and an eye shadow duo. It’s a good price, but if you don’t love it, Costco has an amazing return policy. Just GO EASY on the application! You might want to invest in a high quality kabuki brush to go with it since the price is so reasonable.
2. L’Oreal Bare Naturale:
Clever packaging, with a very cool container and cute little kabuki brush on the top. You think you can trust a name like L’Oreal, but it contains TALC. Not only goes on cakey, can clog pores and trigger breakouts, yuck!
3. Sheer Cover:
I personally tried Sheer Cover a few years ago and had an awful experience with it. The shades did not match my skin well, it went on very heavy, and the brush stinks! You can buy this brand everywhere nowadays, not just on TV infomercials for about $30. Reviewers either love it or detest it. No middle ground with this product.
Recently, I was talking with a woman at our local Target who had clearly overdone it with her foundation, her face looked overly matte and dry, and radiated with an odd orange hue. She proudly announced she was trying “Sheer Cover” and had I heard about it? I quickly tried to change the subject…
If you are like me, you have facial imperfections you are wanting to hide. I have tried so many products that promise a natural feel and great coverage, and after using them are disappointed with the results.
“No orange chalky face please!”
Don’t despair! There are some fabulous foundations out there, every skin is different and hopefully this information can help you find your dream foundation! Some of us really look fabulous using mineral makeup foundations, while others fair better with a liquid or creamy based foundation.
If you are going to use Mineral Foundation, just follow some simple rules:
*MBB’s Best Bets:
Originally, I had recommended this product by Physician’s Formula, but after a comment made by Sarah, take caution with Mineral Wear and keep your receipt!
Maybelline’s new Mineral Makeup Foundations are getting some favorable reviews. Definitely worth considering. I would also strongly suggest looking into some of the private label mineral makeup lines, follow this link to our post on private label companies - DecoDiva Tells All About Private Label Cosmetics.
